When was Jesus Born?

Written by Mrs. Money

Few years ago, when I went to a M Church, a pastor there preached a Christmas sermon, “I don’t know who were those three wise men, where they were from ….” And he gave the congregation unsolved information and mystery that I think that preacher who didn’t do much homework needed to go work as a music teacher like his son. Even a bad Christian like me I think I have more confirmed answers. I heard his previous preaching bragged, "You know my son earned so much money by working as a music teacher..... " I opened my mouth so big and was in awe.

Christmas on December 25th on solar calendar is to commemorate Jesus’s birthday, but how many people realised that it was not the exact day that Jesus was born. So when Jesus was born? I am not an astrology or expert in different races’ calendars but from my knowledge of study through my senior philosophy course, I was exposed to different religions even Zoroastrinism and mixing with Persians during my senior years of study.

The three wise men were the Persian Zoroastrians. Then if you mixed around with Persians, you hardly not to notice that during their new year, there was such Persian Troubadour and Amu Nocus all wore in red to give good tidings and gifts to children.

According to the bible, there were 3 wise men and Santa Claus appeared on scene. The scenario and the period marked a Persians’ affair except Jesus and his parents were not Persians.

Zoroastrianism is the world oldest religion, they worshipped the sun and were great astrologists but surprisingly the three Persian wise men were involved in searching for unusual phenomenon on the sky, based on its trail to lead them to the manger. Is it a myth? If you believe in devil, there will be a God; if you believe in Feng Shui there will be such star shined in brightest on the sky during Jesus birth. Depend on what angle ones look at Feng Shui and also it depend on what angle ones looks at a religion, there are so many people learning kung fu but how many are doing it correctly and they are many Christians go to Church fervently but how many of them were behaving?

So Jesus must be born on Persian New Year based on Persian calendar, I don’t believe Jesus was born on the eve of spring equinox as he was such a great historic figure even for non-Christians. Imagine how many people even such Christian medical specialists that I know of would choose to have their babies born on 01.01.2000 or 09.09.2009 to hope that their kids would become a dragon or phoenix!

I am neither a religious historian nor a preacher, but I think if someone is in such research they should study Persians’ culture, history, astrology, their earliest religion Zoroastrianism custom and their calendar. From there they might be able to trace and gather confirmation evident of the exact date of Jesus's birth.

Ability to Adapt

To a new environment and your own hometown
Written By Mrs. Money

When I first returned for good to stay in Malaysia, I took shower for ten times a day, I couldn’t stand the dirty coffee shops that local have probably developed a blind eye, I realized people were so irresponsive when I greeted strangers a good morning they would think that I was weird and I left air Condi on for 24 hours a day.

Then my dad came in scene, “Hi girl, I don’t want you to act like you have just returned from overseas, local here don’t like it if you brag of your past life and talk with Ang Mo accent.”

Probably I was staying over too many countries, the worst socialist and first world countries. I saw the contrast so I never bragged or complaint much even in front of my parents or siblings. They didn’t know my uptown life only recently I chit-chat a bit to my cousin when I lamented on my past and present.

I returned, settled down, set up my business, almost two decade later I got married, having children then moved to cat city. I finally decided to sell off my business, 10 years ago I spent a lot of money to renovate my business to cope my new life in Malaysia, and after a decade I finally sold it to a couple who have just returned from overseas.

One of this couple was working for an renowned international oil and gas company, they used to live in B city with 24 hours chauffer services provided, stayed in 5-stars condominium, with meals provided in Sheraton hotel. They were living years in B city uptown and then returned to their third world hometown then bought over my business.

I heard that they would brag of how nice B city but they would complain almost everything from my business management to renovation and my third class furniture. Many times after I heard that I become quite hurt, because that were all my best assets that I had accumulated for years of what I had tried to earn and lived since I returned to Malaysia. Well these were the service charge that M city resident could afford me to pay me to let live in such a humble standard, are people expecting me to spend million dollars to renovate my place with Pozzoli sofa and Steinway concert grand supplied to accept the peanuts professional earning? May be there was a chance if I married a rich husband, then you think I would work for that peanut money?

If I ever knew that they were not happy of all I had (or simply my pet), I simply wouldn’t sell it to them, now my reputation is up to their disposure according to their moods and ability to adapt to their own hometown! I didn’t realize they ability to adapt were spending on blaming others and their disappointment, and frustration, faults and blamed were lashed on me at my back.

Actually they visited my business centre often before they left to work in overseas, but they probably didn’t realise their views of living standard have changed abruptly but their old memory still told them my business centre was nice in their old eyes!

Imagine if you were exposed everyday to marble or granite floor, world class furniture and upholsters and lavish interior design of your living environment, then now you have to walk in an old carpeted lobby, returned to your old house and old hometown, your perception changed, you can't let your blind eyes shut. So you renovated your house and newly acquisited business centre almost immediately to cope your new standards according to your exposure, if you were influenced greatly by Chinese, you would decorated your house and office more or less in a Chinese style and if you were admiringly influenced by the west, you would decorate your house more or less like an Ang Mo house.

Many just returned Malaysians after living so many years in first world countries can’t adapt the local Malaysians things quickly. They would live on for years or even decades to grumble at the same time trying to improve to their standard at best of what they could do. So that's what I tried to do to my business, stayed there, lived there and used there for 10 over years, I didn't sell my renovation cost to the new owner, the depreciation of furniture and assets were sold even lower than the market price, in short I gave off my pet for free but only sold its silver kennel and gold flea collar with minimum price. Seemingly, I should give up free of my establishment to someone I associated and some people more than happy to see me broke, beg on street or get a severe despression. I shouldn't make any voice to anyone of those who were the business spy and rivals and who those who gossiped and disturbed me, those "listeners" (they are not friends unfortunately) later would make further defamation remarks on me. In short, there are not many true friends who really sided me in life, they all wanted to be neutral.

Let me tell you, my house with black cow hide on the dark belian floor and besides it now is a tall Christmas tree with lots of gifts from my aunty, cousins and siblings and outside in the garden there are local kang kong and western herbs thrived. We Malaysians like to eat rojak, no matter how hard I try to live in a high standard and try to par up with best, I still would decorate my house in rojak country style house with rojak style interior decoration and rojak style garden.

Unidentified Plant

Written by Mrs. Money

Blame on my own ignorant, I can't identify this plant in my garden. This plant couldn't stand too much rain and neither too much sunshine. It didn't thrive well on poor soil, when I transplanted some seedlings to the expensive compost, the leaves now grow as long as my foot.

If you can kindly tell me what plant is that, I would really appreciate it.

The width of the heart-shaped cordate leaf cover my palm

Seedlings grow on poorer soil

The length of this leaf is as long as my foot

Can you identify the plant for me?

Teak Furniture and Lights in Kuching
I was shopping around Kuching for reasonable price teak furnitures ever since I moved in Kuching a year ago but to my dissapointment I eventually ordered most of my teak furniture as far from Miri and Kota Kinabaru. On October, my cousin brought me to a new teak furniture shop where a very pretty soft spoken owner was giving me a good deal. I would pop in her shop on and off since then, one morning I saw there was another man in the shop, I asked him, "May I know who are you?"

He said, "I am a shop assistant here."

After I browsed through the shop finally the pretty lady owner appeared, I still in doubt of my sharp six sense, "Pretty lady, who is he?" I pointed at him.

"He is my husband." hmmm... my sniffing nose still is working!

So I ended visiting the pretty lady's husband lighting shop, he said he has been in this lighting business since more than a decade ago. I found out there are quite a number of exclusive collections like "fireplace" with artificial charcoal, Spanish-made lights, China-made

furniture with Chinese or Middle East motifs.

If you are new comer to Kuching city I would advice you to go to these two shops to take a look, make sure you meet the pretty Ginnie at Casa Reka Gallry at Lot 68, Jalan Satok. Tel: 422271 and the very friendly husband who runs the Regency Lighting shop at Lot 2589-2590 Central Park Commercial Centre, 3rd Mile, Rock Road. Phone: 244266/ 0198860029

Ice-Cream in Kuching

Last weekend after keeping my kids in the house for whole day, they yelped and insisted me to bring them to the park for a walk. After walking they further pestered me to bring them for ice-cream. So eventually I brought them to Scoops, the owner happened to be there, he was very kind to my boy and we really enjoyed our yummy ice-cream there with Christmas ambience.

The shop is along the Jalan Laksanma

Hawker's Food in Kuching

My kids got quite restless during school holiday, they would bug me until I brought them out to eat super from time to time. I came across this Mee Bao Kong of Lau Lee's Coffee Shop next to Stutong market is special and yummy. The couple who operate it are both friendly and thoughtful for people with young children.

What My Mom Should Have Taught and Told me?

Written by Mrs. Money

I am not a perfect girl because my mom is not a perfect mom, I wish my mom could have taught and told me during the course of my growing up that could perhaps ease my growing pains and make my life lives on easier.

Those “30 year-old orphans” would think that I am a lucky person, (but I am actually a mean girl for my old mom) because towards half of my life destiny I still can fuss on her. One of my friends called me to complain how pompous her mom is getting nowadays, and she told me how her younger sister was telling her that nurseries are booming everywhere in Malaysia yet not the old folks home!

There is a common mental health problem surfaced, closest kindred who take care of old folks are getting depressed and frustrated as old folks like to argue stubbornly of their old wisdoms which conflicted with young minds’ new ideas. Old folks are neither humorous nor flexible which contrasted with those dough-like kids waited to be kneaded, kids’ learning responses and feedbacks give joys to people who take care of them. If ones ever witness an old couple arguing amongst themselves during breakfast though their submissive children would kept quiet yet the rest of the day they would get depressed and unhappy, their insensitive old folks perhaps would never aware of that.

So is it lucky to have old folks at home or ones rather have kids at home or keep both of them at home? I think it’s another interesting issue to discuss in later days.

This is an article written for all ladies with moms or no mom, I hope that you can learn something valuable for yourself or you can drop us your most valuable learning from your moms (in comments); different moms imparted teaching to their daughters differently, as long as the teachings and morals are tactical and feasible, I think as we are still young and malleable enough to change.

My mom is the most insensitive robust mom that I have known from beginning to now, in old days her minds only cycled with reading bible, giving showers for her cash cow pigs instead of her 2 years old baby and as long as they were foods (mostly vegetables) on tables for all three meals. However, my mom was an extremely hard working and patient lady, she grew up in a male dominated family, as the youngest of all, she never learned how to cook well but she could study well by tapping and running along the rubber trees.

As a farm girl she lived a very harsh life, when the different abandoned rubber gardens now worth many millions, she would by then being considered as an outcast by her paternal family. This situation not just happened to her only, but also to many Chinese girls who worked like hell before getting married and after married to another family, she worked like hell again and still being considered as an outcast by her husband’s family (I recall once Mr. Money told me, “My family really appreciate so much of what you have done to our family.”) and some could only take a rest in coffins. (So I don’t understand why my mom and sisters wanted me to get married to get rid of me when their life were not as easy?!)

My mom was forbidden to continue her university level education while her classmates who got the chance to pursue are now titled. I remember she was hissing angrily once a well pampered pretty Puan Seri couldn’t recognize a harsh life, dark and ugly old her in a swimming competition. So my mom insisted all her daughters to go to college, that’s why after we got exposed, cultivated and educated more than she could, hmm….. it‘s the time her grown-up kitties starting to make complain that she is a great mom but not a perfect mom!

Anyhow, I am not a perfect girl because my mom is not a perfect mom, I wish I could have a mom who could teach and tell me some of her family heirloom of wisdoms that could perhaps save some of my unnecessary tears.

The following will be my teaching and nagging I will feed on my daughter once she grows old enough to understand. Remember it’s always too late to nag once your daughters have reached their puberty age!

Dating

What my mom didn’t teach, hint and tell me – How to look for a rich established husband?!!!!

Make sure you are as equally rich and established to par up with your husband if not then someone in your immediate family is as equally rich as your hubby or his family. Marry-down sometimes for a lady is a mental torture when she faces her new less educated, cultivated and poorer family, normally she has to suffer more. There was a lady who married down, when she slept in her in law house she was bitten by a big bed mite but both her mother-in-law and husband said it was mosquito instead, so she showed him the mite she killed yet they told her because she was a stranger that’s why the mite bite her! However, if she married up into a reasonably well off family, where material wise she doesn’t need to suffer, leaving alone is if she is willing to learn how to “climb” as long it is not too high or there is not many barriers.

I once eardrop how a very educated business tycoon laughing at his son’s girlfriend, because she was not coming from as equally powerful background, he said that even his son’s best friends didn’t like her, then he switched his subject to introduce one after another who were his son friends’ girlfriends, you could hear those noted Japanese, Hong Kong or Taiwanese entrepreneurs’ names mentioned. My daughter was just born during that month, after what I heard I swear I won’t let my daughter married into a super rich family if I remained a mediocre.

What my mom and my religion taught me before – Don’t date a gangster and must be a virgin before getting married. Simple theory here: A good one trade in another as equally good one!!!

I have heard of such slogan often: “Say no to sex” and “Don’t get pregnant, use a condom!”

Alert – Oh Mom! How Do I know and differentiate a properly dress-up man I date will be a gangster, a con man, a proper man or a wolf?

Fate of Life: How about those women who got divorced due to getting married bad husbands or those young girls who got raped by strangers, so after that they all can’t find a proper man to get married anymore?

Problem Arose: That’s why there are so many mistresses or even prostitutes with inferior complex around town, because once they got date-raped or raped, their conservative oriented consulted psychiatrists, mothers’ and religious teaching would make them think that no man wants an imperfect girl anymore, so they rather to be succumbed to be “thieves in skirts” and “ladies of the night”?

Stories and Ones’ Choice to Live: There was a very good man worked in country B, he got a wife and two sons stayed in City M. Due to a business operation he met his rich playboy cousins (a very famous datuk’s son) once he mixed with them very soon he also wanted to par up with them. He then met a very innocent girl who planed to pursue law study, she thought she has found a caring, thoughtful and mature dream man, one day the wolf’s colleague in City KK confronted her why she stole somebody’s hubby, at the same time his wife was also informed, due to the shock both the mistress and wife developed a very foul temper. Last I heard of them was they still stay together but moved on to stay in City K to have a new start, but his long married wife remains in City M.

Remarks: She couldn’t get out probably due to inferior complex or simply don’t want to be a loser (I met her before and I don’t think she is a bad girl, but she has gone through a rude shock that could change her moral standings to revenge indirectly on her “wolf” boyfriend, especially when there is a first wife to compete)

There was a lady who grew up with a very religious mom, then she went to Town B met a dream gentleman; he showered her with gifts, loves and funs in discos and pubs. Then she got pregnant and wanted to marry him, but her mom opposed and never attended the Church wedding (very sarcastic, these days this particular denomination won’t even allow any non-virgin to get married in their churches) but the couple eventually won the old holy mom’s heart by acting as her Church women’s leader and fervent church goers on Sunday, but from Mon to Sat the old mom never learns that her son-in-law is actually a triad gangster!

Remarks: They tango together so well and I heard they will be grandparents soon, but whosever bitten by them before would curse and hate this scorpion-like couples forever. Our moms taught us not to do bad things to people to get bad in returns, but so far I could see they still live on so well, going to Philippine fro money laundering often, and newly married daughter-in-law actually feels so proud of her new father-in-law’s wealth, prestige and social positions in M city. I could only see now from these bullies’ kids, they are not good in studies but they are as good like their parents to camouflage themselves, if they never graduated, they would blow a big picture of graduate gown posted and hanged those weasel-claim photos on in the entrance of office.

Tips: I would advise those “very innocent young girls”, don’t date those “experienced men” (this problem usually happened to young girls who like older men) Again the question returns to how you know the man is experienced (in sex) or not? Few advices here, he is charming and sweet like your old respected dad, daddy’s buddies or older brother, but the minute you go out with him, he will reveal his “hairy” hands, if the minute he shows a hair , girl, you must run and run as fast as possible to get out provided you don’t get drunk or drugged!)

Gratitude

I met so many young ladies who didn’t grow up with much gratitude oriented on their minds, as it like everyone in the world owes them something. I wonder if they were ever taught by their moms of such word called gratitude?

Worst are those kids who grew up in the family with parents who didn’t accept Chinese's 5000 years essence of wisdoms (or particular race’s own cultivation) nor proper western moral teaching, education and cultivation (They felt damn proud due to they can write and speak good English! Worst still they also got thick face to laugh at others who don’t command good English like them).

I used to help a lady, who failed her particular exam in C city under the sponsorship of her YB datuk uncle. I heard later she used her uncle’s money to pay the over spent credit cards in long distance phone bills to call her boyfriends who was once working in City J, so she actually hardly got money left to go to class, only on the last few months before exam she tried to look for a teacher to teach her. So when she failed her exam, her dad heard of me in a newspaper, he got her back to city M to look up for me, I offered to train her thus gave her a job and eventually she earned few diplomas. Yet, in my suspicions why her dad never sounded so friendly to me of all those years I gave free lessons to her daughter and in actual fact trained her daughter for free.

I always wonder if she still asked for the money from her parents or her uncle to pay me (but indirectly that went on to settle her outstanding credit card) though I accepted nothing from her or else it's no point her parents and uncle were acting so unfriendly and so ingratitude towards me of what I tried to enhance their daughter or niece's better future.

Where in the world, someone could give an inexperienced person free lessons and a decent job, at the same trained her to path a brighter tomorrow? So worst still with my full trust given on her when I went overseas for maternity leave, she teamed up with another colleague set up her own business, to promote herself fully in my expenses and with my resources, they could earn money on the first month on their business operation, that’s my 10 years hard work, they could take away my resources without feeling guilty.

In an actual fact this kind of act in business industry these days is never considered as “day time thief” or “day time robbery”, she could prepare herself since years ago ready to take action on my most helpless days (the Chinese heroine, when the enemy wanted to attack her, it always happened during the time she delivered her baby) before I knew it, these young girls took whatever resources they wanted from me and after they left they still could bark the faults on me, I couldn’t rush back on time to rescue the crisis. I eventually learned how heartless and ingratitude young ladies could be without good mothers to guide them but actually to support them to act ingratitudely.

I remember such lady would never made as a single noise or complaint when she was under my wings for 7 over years, so called still water run deep. Could be I was so blind, so few incidents that I indirectly offensed certain women could be back-stabbed by her out of my awareness, as the gossips all were passed to me by her, I actually never made any bad remark about those women (they were my clients why I had to bad mouthing to jeorpadize myself right?), only these days I could recount those episodes to give me a chill in hearts of how calculating and cunning this lady could be, no wonder these days her uncle has become a very famous politician!

She could give me a 21 days notice of resignation and all a sudden she could find all sort of faults on me. She even threw me a bomb said that if I was not happy of such 21days notice, she still could return and work the rest of the 9 days for me. (That’s left her more rooms to take all what I had?). So when someone asked her mom where her daughter earned her diploma from, she replied and could lie that her daughter got her diplomas from KL. So like mother like daughter, both were ingratitude, I am wordless until these days!

I remember, many years back she was walking in to see me without much confident, during the interview she told me her aunty is a nun and her brother is a brother. It makes me think is it such particular religion teaches ones to commit sins but that could be forgiven by confession, as the practise and the believes were practised frequently since they were young, so the situation is like if we got injured, we just used the bandage, few days later it would recover. I don’t respect that kind of Christians who take the advantage of their religion to show their ingratitude to people, so they believe strongly God will favour and forgive them especially I am not a fervent Church goer.

My conclusion here is: If a mom didn’t teach her daughter well, don’t expect her religion could teach her daughter well as well!

Cleanliness
Did your mom ever teach you the different between the basins to wash dishes and brush teeth? So don’t mix the two basins for both uses, spit in the basin in the toilet and don’t spit on the basin in kitchen!

Raw Salmon Pickle

Created and Written by Mrs. Money

Few weeks ago, my ex-student sent me an email from England asking me for my raw salmon pickles that I used to prepare for her and her sisters when they were babysitting my two little kids. Of course I was so touched, especially after they tried all those goodies in England, my raw salmon pickles could still make them felt unforgettable.
They said they would be preparing the dish for their thanksgiving dinner.

I think this raw salmon pickle can be served as a starter or side dish.

Ingredients:

Slices of raw salmon

Ingredients for pickling sauce:
Extra virgin olive oil
Mince olives, Garlic and onion
Mince daikon (white carrot or raddish)
Dash of black pepper
Vinegar or lemon
Dash of wasabi
Salt
Chopped dills, parsley or cilandro (sparingly)

Or if you are lazy just use the Italian dressing

Procedure:
Mix all sauce ingredients well then pour it to raw salmon slices, chill in refrigerator while preparing other dishes before a big feast.

Wonderful Onion and Garlic

Written by Mrs. Money

Chinese long believed that garlic could ward off evil spirits, even up to these days some educated Chinese with unsaturated harder than coconut brains still believing of whatever their illiterate moms had once taught them, such imparted unconditional old days opinions were imprinted like tattoos in their minds.

In short, those evil spirits' terminology have changed to the virus and bacteria in modern days’ science.

A month ago, my sister sent me a chain mail of those wonder deeds of onions' testimonials, how the onion was sliced and put in socks to wear on to get rid of H1N1 high fever or how onion was placed in an office to make everyone there healthy.

My daughter got a serious croup when she was just two years old, a long story made it short when my daughter got barking coughs, the doctor I brought her to didn’t give her correct diagnose and thus prescripted her an antibiotic that couldn't supress her high fever, so I kept looking for my family doctor from early Sunday morning to early evening, just because I was waiting for my family doctor's returning call and I let my daughter’s high fever dragged on for the whole day, then my eldest sister popped in to visit.

She just carried my daughter hurried to her car and barked at me, “Come on! Go to the specialist centre immediately.” My eldest sister saved my daughter a life but not a doctor who gave wrong diagnose and a doctor with his wife who just ignored my call, can you believe it?

But from that day onwards my daughter has became so sensitive to any changes in temperature, if I turned air-condition just a degree down, within the next few days I sure had to bring her visiting a doctor.

Until one of my younger sister who sent me an email on November, the onion wonder article sounded quite sensible to me. So for a month, my unhealthy daughter became my experimenting guinea pig, I cut an onion into half and left it inside her bedroom.

Most parents got such experience that their kids like to cough after midnight, so when she coughed, I would immediately place the onion next to her, to my surprise, her cough wouldn't continue or persist on and off through the rest of the night.

So far, my both kids have not been sick since the day sleeping with onion as their companion or else in the past at least once a month I got to bring my daughter either to see a Chinese doctor or a child specialist. I remember just a week ago, they both played under the rain, and I heard their sneezing and running nose, however after a night sleep in an onion infiltrated room. Second morning, they were still as healthy and pink.

I just started to add in garlic few nights ago to their bedroom, soon I will add in lemon grass and lemon peels.

Goodbye .... To all kind of devils!

Goodies in Kuching City On Month of November 2009

Recommended by Money Tai Tai

To get a wrong plumber to inspect your suspected faulty toilet could cost you lots of money, and if you were stupid enough to believe him you actually would waste a branded toilet bowl because he suggested you to change a new toilet. These days I like to ask the best to recommend the best, I deeply believe the best would mix with the best, asking the best tango with mediocre and the cooperation won’t last.

Always make confirmation to make sure they are able to fix your faulty things then ask for an approximate service charge before you engage them. I bear no responsible if you don’t work along with anyone of them, I can only tell you first, “Very sorry!”

My sister’s old classmate invited me to a lunch in my neighbourhood which I never aware of there got such a rustic romantic eatery in Kuching city. The minute I walked in the place I could forget all those hectic noisy city burden life style and here is really a haven for a fine lazy afternoon dinning.

If you have just returned from overseas, you would appreciate these local cuisines waiting for you to order, these spicy foods came in served with red rice. On this open concept restaurant I could also browse through their antiques made of our own local hard woods, where a repainted simple big empty cookie tin could came out a unique cum artistic displayed item. My sister’s classmate joked, “If you like the decoration so much, why you don’t unearth some of your grandma’s old heirloom, repainted to decorate your house?”

This is the first eatery in Kuching city which gave me a very strong impression of its own individualistic concept, simple yet never lost its sensitive artistic touch. For dinner it only opened on Friday and Saturday.

My Liberica Coffee Seedlings
A diary of coffee plants

Written by Mrs. Money

For past months I tried to browse through internet thinking of getting coffee seedlings to cultivate in my garden, and it really discouraged me when I learned how slowly for a coffee seed to grow into a mature coffee plant.

This morning one of my neighbours brought me the best gift of the year: two Liberica species coffee seedlings (from cuttings), I really wanted to give her a bear hug and kisses on her both cheeks but she said, “No no no I caught flu!”

She gave me a valuable lesson about coffee, she said this Liberica species will be the best for our altitude, as Arabica is only suitable for highland, even if I try to plant it, it might not bloom and bear fruits, and Robusta might only bear small fruits.

Can’t wait for the two babies Liberica to grow up, I am now day dreaming (looking forward) my home grown, self roasted and brewed coffee! Of course by that time I will still send my neighbour some beams even if she will be far away in Jamaica!

Nov. 14th, 2009 when I first received these two seedlings from my friend Rosma

Coffee blossoms smelt really good and looked pretty and pleasing

Always a Surprise!
Organic Gardening

Written by Mrs. Money

Vegetables, fruits and herbs
Every morning you greet me
Small and green, red and glossy
You look happy to meet me
Pouring of rain may you bloom and grow
Bloom and grow forever
Bless my little garden forever

Sowed with seeds from a purple passion fruit, but I see not a dot of purplish yet, friends who seem it said it's the biggest passion fruit they ever seem.

A surprise giant roma tomatoes harvest, but I didn't pay much attention to this rojak patch, otherwise I believe these giants could grow a lot bigger. In this picture, I put an egg in a center to compare the giants

Perfect and Big: When water hens didn't come steal a bite on my egg plants again

For the first passion fruit. It took 40 days from flowering to a pre-mature dropping fruit caused by either drought or touched by on of my naughty kids. It was really sour and you can see from its palish yellow pulp.

This is the size of the first pre-mature passion fruit on RM100 bill with an egg to compare

Many passion fruit flowers emerged, I did hand pollination for them

Harvesting of Baby Corn Shoots

Written by Mrs. Money

Thanks to my cousin who bought me the baby corn seeds, I only sowed 5 seeds to get 5 seedlings and they all grew up so well, after three months, now is the harvesting time.

Baby Corn Shoots Plants

After first harvest, must chop off from the first top leaf and its flowers to encourage more corn shoot emerged downwards, normal a plant can produce around 10 shoots

Still too young to harvest, let diameter reaches up an inch on first harvest, than 2cm on subsequent harvests

Good enough for a meal

The corn saved as seeds for germinating purpose, a love gift for my dad, he got the whole mature corn. I hope the baby sweet corns will slow down my old folks' aging rate!

VARIATIONS IN DABAI PRESERVATION

Most traditional way of preparing dabai with salt, sugar and soy sauce

Created and Written by Mrs. Money

Variation 1: How to Prepare Dried Dabai

This variation of dabai can be eaten as titbits, plain or ones can fry it with fried mince onion, garlic and ikan bilis or dry shrimp. We can also add dried dabai to certain Sarawakiens' native vegetables as a kind of carrier to bring out memorable unique taste, use dabai to fry rice or as a garnish when steaming salted fish or meat.

I also come out an idea, if Italians use olive to make their bread; we should make dabai bread as one of Sarawakians’ specialties.

This is the best gift you can bring out of country to our own Sarawakien relatives and friends, or leave it in the freezer until their next homecoming visit.

If dabai oxidized to purple ---- sour, my way of preservation you would get a surprise.

Clean dabai with water, add olive oil to massage then rinse off with water. Rinse again with hot water very quickly.

Dry dabai under the sun

In a wok, add olive oil and salt

Fry the dabai until dried up

Remove dabai seeds with a spoon

Give a final quick fry, surprised to see the yellow color is there?

Once dry up, pack in a cleaned bottle and sprinkle some salt on the top

Store in freezer

Variation 2: Dabai in Olive Oil

Sterilized bottle or glass container with boiling water, after that dry it
