HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN LIP BALM?

A Christmas gift for your own when you won't receive any!

Posted by Poor Money Tai Tai

This year end marked my 5th jobless year in meow city, I learn to live more stingy than ever and learn like those majority poorer local residents live their simple lives.

Hardly anything that I did here for the past few years could get any positive response.  To gain new friendships by doing charity? Never in my life I become so negative, why it makes me felt that it is a city that welcomes tourists but not a migrated resident from other smaller town?

The spending power of the people  here are not like the oil city, I only learn that they save their money to get out of meow city during school holidays, last Saturday night I witnessed meow airport was packed with people, queued up a more than a kilometer in both departure and arrival halls.

First Christmas when I was in meow city, I  was so cheerful and full of positiveness, and the life here gradually pushed me to the bottleneck, now I wonder if this will be my last Christmas here!

I went to a pharmacy, there was no lip balm under RM5, but the cheapest was more than RM10. What's going on here?

I saw the rich ones become richer, poorer ones become poorer, unfortunately I become the later one.

Poor people become more resourceful and they really bargain hard. Usually a lip balm with RM10+ lasted me for 4 months, so I returned home prepared a whole year supply of lip balm that cost me less than RM10.

New Zealand bee wax, a piece of that cost $7 (RM19), but I just need 1/6 of it.

I bought lemon infused extra virgin oil during clearance sales, 50% off, cost me a bottle around RM11, you just need a quarter cup

Bought 10 plastic empty containers from pharmacy cost me RM2

Put  bee wax and olive oil together in a bowl, heat them in microwave at 90 degree until the bee wax barely melted, then stir the bee wax until melted.

Can buy this from Cosway, half teaspoon mixed and melted with little water.

Mix everything together, keep mixing and stirring under room temperature

Before it gets thicker, make sure you already transfer them to  containers.

There are 10 small cases and the big one sure lasts me to the year end. How about I sell you those small containers each for RM3? I GUARANTEE you won't get dry lip in England during winter!

It is not soft, edible. So why buy those lip balm made by petroleum gel and all those chemical?

HOW TO CURE MIGRAINE?

I often have once-a-month-migraine  since so long ago that I have forgotten!

Written by Miss Yellow

Like kids, I also love fried fish or french fries, I love something crunchy, and I become quite an expert now to fry real crunchy fried fish and ikan bilies, actually the little secret is using glutinous rice powder not the corn starch or the flour.
Fried foods? People who always have migraine will think twice before think of eating it!

If you experience migraine bad enough that every month you have to go see doctor, the doctor will give you yellow and blue mirgaine tablets. These few months however no doctor can earn my money, because when I felt a bit "bloating" over my head, I would immediately prepare my "Kacama" tea. (Leonurus heterophyllus tea)
'What Kacama? Is it "Hot" too heaty for your body and will sure make your headache gets worst!'
This is a very common warning given by Chinese old "China-women", kacama is not heaty if you don't use a kilogram of ginger to cook along with it dudes............*&^$#$**
'What? Kacama is bitter, how to make it into tea, using tea leaves?'
Dudes.. kacama tea is not TEA leaves, chrysanthemum tea is made from chrysanthemun flowers, kacama tea is made from kacama leaves (either fresh or dried one).

CAUTION: DON'T LET CHILDREN EAT KACAMA!!!!

I used my dad (prostate problem) as a guinea pig last month, initially I tried to prepare different version of kacama concoctions, eventually my dad said this version tasted the best! I mixed the kacama leaves with red dates (smashed the red dates), rinse the dried kacama leaves once, boil the handful of smashed red dates, a handful of kacama leaves and 2 litres of water for a while only, then simmer for 30 minutes, sieve before drink.
Do it at least three times in a month, recommended for old ladies who have migraine and insomnia, old women if you want nice complexion and old men who have prostrate problem.

Note: Always see doctors when your headache persists and please read the precautions from the website attached

Kuching people are very lucky, you can buy a package of dried kacama leaves less than RM5.00 (US$1.5)

This is one of the kacama seedlings in my garden.

HOW BUSY HOUSEWIVES REALLY ARE?

Our friends simply assumed that “housewives are very free!”

........ Being a housewife usually is the least appreciated job in this whole world, she is hardly being respected, recognized and appreciated by even her own spouse and children, needlessly mentioned any other outsiders. Other senseless women with rich husbands would look down at them; other men would even lazy to give a nobody’s wife a glance.

Written by Money Tai Tai

Last year, my old classmate’s wife and I went out perhaps once or twice in a month for breakfast, we also invited along some old friends and they would bring along their other friends as well. Usually when we met these strangers they would ask us a frequent question that bothered me a lot, “Since both of you are a housewife, you must be very free!

When these career women with at least two maids at home working for them at home, if they asked me this question I would give them a middle fingers under the breakfast table, as I worked since 15 years old, then I got married when I was quite old, I employed housekeeper, babysitters and cleaner but I never decided for any of those housewives that I met with such tongue-in-cheek remark that they must be very free as a housewife, I feel that would consider as invading a person's privacy.

Even Mr. Money won’t understand how busy his wife was and is, when he saw me cleaning the house he would told me, “Aye, don’t need to clean the house so clean like XXX (sister-in-law)  ban Chin chea! (Compulsively clean person)”

“Now I know where the piglets’ dirty and messy genes inherited from!!!” I angrily retorted.

I hate Saturday morning because usually I have six pairs of white school shoes that I have to brush, wash and sun-dry. I have to soak in a bucket overnight on Friday night and used cream cleanser to brush those grey shoes. The brushing excercise would be better than going to sauna after turning those grey shoes to white! Worst was half way through when I washed the shoes somebody called, when I answered the phone, “What are you doing?”

“Washing shoes!”

“Aye, no need to clean so white lah!” Gilaka! From this kind of remark onward I would never care to go answer any telephone when I wash those dirty grey shoes.

I got up usually at 6am, my other friends would even wake up at 5am, I usually prepare breakfast and also refreshment and drink for the kids bringing to school, by 6:30am I usually had to carry the youngest one out of the bed to the dining table or scream my lung out to get them up of bed. While I took shower and have a change, 20 minute later when I reemerged although not looking like a bride but at least presentable, I am a believer of “This world only has lazy girls but no ugly girls!” Occasionally I would see my daughter rolled up with her blanket slept next to a coach near the dining table, and none of the foods were being touched. My son only just finished his Milo! I would scream again, “Hurry up, it’s coming to 7!!!”

If five minutes before 7am they couldn’t finish their breakfast, they still have to take a quick shower, change and go. If they couldn’t reach the school on time at 7:10am, “I was not late but you are late, you walk in yourself today then!” That mean I wouldn’t carry their heavy school bags to their respective class rooms. They should thank that their mother is a very good driver, almost every morning I "fly" my car to school! I remember a morning when my door was opened suddenly while my meter was 80km/hr during a sharp 90 degree turn, luckily there was no car beside my car. "Childish nasty kids can really cost you a life if you are not strong and able!"

Immediately sending kids to school, I would pop in Stutong market occasionally; I would get out there less than 30 minutes so that I could get a free parking. Upon reaching home, I have to wash the dirty clothes and dirty dishes (I hate Sunday when I have to go to Church that could make my day even busier which Mr. Money never understands). Within this hour I have to quickly read my newspaper and finish my breakfast before hanging out clothes under the sun, when the sun was not cooperative with a housewife, she would have a busy day running in and out of the house frequently.

If a housewife couldn’t prepare a delicious meal, none of her kids would entertain her, the immediate protest would be there were those untouched foods remained on the dining table, even if you give them lectures after lectures of how many kids don’t even have foods to eat.

“Sometimes I spent my sweat and time to cook the meal yet these kids didn’t even touch what I cooked, they even told me off how yucky the foods were!” So ended this career woman friend of mine would eat out every meal, as she doesn’t have a maid at home, luckily she has a helpful husband.

Hardworking poor housewives without a maid and a helpful husband, they regularly have to cook three meals, wash dishes, fold dried clothes, iron clothes, dusting the furniture, mop the floor over the whole house in and out, do gardening, occasionally they have to take off, clean, sun-dry, put back curtains, bed sheets, pillow cases and blankets etc. Weekends they have to wash kids dirty and stained school shoes and uniforms and sending kids go to tuition and learning hobbies would be another headache, so poor housewives all are looking dark, yet the heartless husbands could tell them, “You are getting more and more fat, dark and ugly!” while they hardly helped to fetch the kids and share the household duties, these men think that they have done nothing wrong to coax and cheat an ex-professional woman to work for them in half price or 70% discount!

By the time 9pm, a housewife usually would be so tired, “Mum, can you read us bed time story?”

“No, I am so tired.”

“You are a bad mum; other children’s mums would tell them the stories!”

“Shut up! I am juggling as an UNISEX parent to you, at least you could help me something; when I cooked not suited your taste buds, at least you pretending the foods were nice! If 8th EE during your age, she could cook for the whole family of 12!! You can’t even cook the rice at 7, shut up and go to sleep!”

I know I am a bad mum when I was tired and exhausted, I lost all my EQ. And I never expected my husband to tell me, “THANK YOU!” Only once he told me, “My family and I thank you for what you had done and helped!” My Chinaman and Chinawoman-parents wanted to get rid of me so they could feel their parenting duties were over, so I simply married a man to please them, then my husband never recognized me as a part of his family, they think that I am just an outsider. This is the dilemma happens all the time in a conservative Chinese family, only parents and husbands who have drink enough “western water” they would give human rights to their children, siblings, in-laws and wives.

Many young girls dreamed to get married, married to a rich man, the best is someone like Prince William to give them prestige, wealth and power; but really how many percentage of girls were really get married happily? Many women deeply rooted with moral, principals and religious teaching would mostly suffer and tolerate silently over their decades of unhappy and "walking corpse" marriage, but put forth nice brave faces to outsiders. Frequently their Chinaman-husbands would even threatened and abused these women if they didn’t begat enough sons, secretly they have another family set up outside so that their roots wouldn’t be terminated!

Many women married very late but they still regretted deeply that they got married perhaps to a wrong man; they thought being a housewife could give and foster their kids with the best education and best cares, but money is the key role to make a family runs smoothly. When a precedent promise was broken by a rogue tongue husband, we ladies would be the one who always suffered, you sold your business, you quit your job, you were coaxed to get married, these mean all your fame and your financial income were CUT from the moment you gave up. For Chinamen they feel easier to control a moneyless wife, they would secretly cut all your resources and interest to make you feel self-pity, one day you woke up you found out you are already too fat, too dark, too poor, too useless and too angry to face the rogue tongue liar who destroys your better future.

Worst news for the old ladies is if they got fooled and married to a rogue tongue liar Chinaman kind of husband (there is high % of inferior men (than able women) married late in their lives due to their disable to make decision, their income is not sufficient to find a decent wife and to form a decent family, they have unattractive outlook either too short or with bad habits and bad manners and bad characters, not disciplines and irresponsible), they would take all advantage of a poor wife as it she owes her last life to him! In this conservative scene of Kuching, most Chinamen husband still would blame their wives for educating unsuccessful grown up children, but they would never blame themselves that they are not a smart man to give smart genes to their offspring, they never gave enough money for their wives to raise the family and they never blame themselves of not putting any foot involving in educating and teaching their kids. They hardly would spend time with kids but rather sat and chat and drink coffee in a kopitiam with their friends yet when they got old they expect their kids don’t send them to old folks home!!!!

My conclusion is: Lazy housewives with maids or without a maid will be so free and their mouths also are very free but hardworking housewives will be always very busy, usually they don’t hire a maid unless they are physically weak and sick.

HOW TO MAKE FOO CHOW YAM CAKE?

Typical Foo Chow men only like their own Foo Chow's style yam cake!

Written by Money Tai Tai

Thanks friend Catina who gave me 5 organic home grown bin lang yam to enable me preparing this foo chow's style yam cake.

A pack of 500g rice powder

Only use extravirgin black sesame oil

Only use Bin Lang yam, use around 4 medium size yam, shredded.

Use both minced pork and pork cutlets

Use only minced small shallots, garlic and big dried shrimps (small ones here won't taste as good)

Fry minced onion and garlic, salt,  dried shrimps with sesame oil until golden brown

Add pork fry until golden brown too

Add and fry shredded yam quickly.

Add a little soy sauce

Turn off fire, mix well

Add a pack of rice powder, a litre of water

Add black pepper, mix well and taste the flavor

Use a cheese cake tray
Pour the mixture into the tray

Steam it

Steam for 2 hours

Foo Chow' s style Yam cake is done!

Cut into pieces, cover with mixture of  glutinous rice powder and corn starch powder, so crunchiness will still retain when they turn cold.

Pan fry the yam cake until golden brown.

ANIMAL BEHAVIOURS!

I only realized my son acquired his animals’ kind of wisdoms from those
Disney cartoon animals and Youtube cats' defence shows!

Written by Money Tai Tai

Kids can be hilarious sometimes, early morning I took my kids for kolo mee, so I only tabao snacks for them, the snacks were cheese tortillas chips and cheese twister chips. I only realized kids really love chips very much, I have a good idea, next time I will give kids different kind of chips for their birthday!

When my kids came home this afternoon, they told me everyone in their class loved their foods, my son told me he ended up eating his chips under his desk. His classmates are entirely mature young boys and girls, when he acted like a cat or dog, nobody would want to “paw down” with him to share his chips. I called this as animal wisdom that he learned from Disney cartoon and Youtube cats’ shows!

My daughter however is a much more mature girl than her elder brother but instead most of her chips ended up on her classmates’ mouths, so one of the students’ mum saw what had happened, she advised her, “Why don’t you eat some of their foods too?!”

I only realized very recently that my son was acting like a cat, since a year ago I kept receiving complaints from his teachers that whenever they gave him canning, he would retaliate, until one of the older experienced teacher told me, “Even he touched me lightly than he was happy enough!”

Then I realized that since a year ago, he loved to watch those cats met snakes shows from Youtube, ended he would return his teacher a “paw” whoever canned him, a scratch for those he was not afraid of or when he couldn’t retaliate, he simply hid under a desk!

THE EVIDENT OF A "KID-LOSER"!
Definitely my son got beaten by teachers more than any of his classmates!
Seemingly he couldn't do anything "proper" or "right" in classmates' and teachers' eyes!

Written by Money Tai Tai

I feel extremely guilty, burdened and heart ached as a mother to my poor son whenever he got beaten by his teachers in school or in tuition classes, because when I was pregnant I took antidepressants, these days when I recalled of what I did, I regretted deeply of why I was so obedient, and in a point that I really believed I was really severely depressed person thus I obediently taken the psychiatrist’s prescription. Taking the antidepressants during pregnancy had greatly triggered my sharp memory, turned me into slightly sluggish and a sleepy head. I was told it wouldn’t be harmful to my baby if I took the antidepressants, and I was stupid enough to believe it, in western medical science everything takes proof and evident, but who dares to mess with an established international pharmaceutical company by complaining their antidepressants did harm to me and my son?

My son got beaten by his teachers recently, last week he got beaten by his math teacher because his classmates reported to teacher that my son erased the wrong answers by entering correct answers on the returning marked exam papers. Yesterday during his BM tuition class, his classmates reported to teacher that my son tried to take off his pant!

‘Take off his pant?’ I wonder if my son was daring enough to take off his pant right in front of his class! If I was a teacher who would use a rattan to beat a student, then I would wait until he took off his pant completely, left naked then I would can his naked ass, left the solid evident for the student’s parent to see. It takes a brainy teacher to judge a situation wrong or right quickly, instead of being fooled and confused by a weird situation.

In Malaysian public school, especially Chinese primary school caning is still a popular practice to control the extra naught, disobedient students and to those students who are poor in studies. Worst still if my son classmates know that my son is not a good student, they would immediately give "rating" that his sister is also as “stupid” as her brother, she returned home few times complained to me, ‘Mummy, someone bullied me in school!’

So finally I told them, “Look, when you are young, people will judge you if you study well or not, if you are not good in school, they will bully you. Similarly, when you grow old, people will judge you again, this time measuring by money, if you have money, they won’t dare to bully you!”

In Malaysian Chinese primarily schools, it is so easy to judge if your kid got problems or not (whatever kind of problem) in school and tuition school, when your kid returned home with can marks, you probably have a "kid- loser", then you better pay an extra attention on him! May be he is just a one-track kind of genius not suitable to confine studying in a general broad based  designed educational program, this kind of problematic kids may be due to autistic, medical caused partial mental handicapped or partial physically handicapped. Many parents or family members simply don’t want to admit their own wrong doings or guiltiness by admitting their kids or nephews/nieces have certain cognitive awareness problems by insisting them to send to the public school.

These kind of over active, insensitive (unaware of what’s happening to their surrounding) or amused in their own world kids could cause a lot of annoyance to teachers (and could also annoy those good students in class) who conduct teaching with a whole group of students, the problematic students were the ones who would hardly listen to any teacher in class, they would do their own things, like suddenly took out foods to eat that should be eaten during recess time or simply walked out of class while teachers still teaching. Good students are the “policemen” who were always mean enough and would report to their teachers of even a slight mistake of the ‘bad students’ did in class, and as teachers would always got annoyed by those "black sheep" in class, if they unwisely lost their cools, caning was just a normal procedure to “quench the thirst” of those “policemen” and also to sooth the teachers raised temperaments.

At home, similar practise goes on in a family, like between my son and his smarter sister, she becomes the “policeman” and would always report whatever slight mistake her brother made, e.g. ‘Mum, koko threw papers on the floor!’ If I scolded my son, I could see the “policeman” happily “waved her tail” but if I didn’t do anything, she would keep complaining until I did something to her misbehaved brother.

Yesterday after my son's tuition class, he showed up crying and showed me the canned marks, my camera and hp batteries all ran out, only this morning I was able to take these three photos of canned marks, this most severe one fallen on on mid-lower arm.

This one don't appear as clear this morning which fallen on upper inner thigh.

This rattan can fallen on the upper arm.

EATING BURMESE FOODS IN KUCHING!
Without flying to Burma ..... and these foods were on my dinning table!

Written by Money Tai Tai

I feel so lucky indeed!

Special thanks and appreciation to my busy Burmese friends who prepared all these exotic Burmese foods, there were simply yummy yummy, even my old secondary school classmate Aui Aui who had tried gourmet foods all over the world was enjoying it.

Dr. Khin Khin besides holding a PHD, she cooks so well too. This Burmese Curry Noodles (Burmese Laksa!) was prepared by her.
Curry chicken pieces

Rice noodles

Burmese version fried Garden peas "tempura"

Mint and onion

Noodles

Bean sprouts
Lemon

Burmese version vegetables "tempura"

Soup base (sticky chicken soup with eggs)

Chopped eggs

Put everything together .... Burmese "Laksa!"

Cherie is an apple to one of her English students in Swinburne, he came an extend driving for 17 miles just to invite her visiting him during Chinese New Year in his Kuching outskirt country home. Cherie prepared this Burmese "Salsa" dip served with assorted vegetables a day before I flew off to visit my parents in an oil town, she is a precious apple in my eye too!

Burmese fish simmered in oil with soy sauce.

Cherie's la pet (Burmese fermented green tea salad) was always everyone's favorite! She used fermented green tea generously, mixed with sesame oil, fish sauce, chili, slices of ginger and garlic, used lettuce and tomatoes, garnished with most crunchy assorted nuts and sesame seeds in the whole world. If without using the assorted nuts for la pet, I would treat it as cocktail to serve with a mug of beer!
