Differences of Flying Lufthansa and Swiss Air

Reminisces of late 80s incidents

 

Back in late 80s, China was still not considered as one of a global giant, it was merely a country that most other races looked down at, they were detested as communist by most democratic favored folks, they had not win the Olympic yet, their musicians have not monopolized most international concert stages yet, and they had not earned their first bucket of gold yet. 

   Even though I was born a Chinese-Malaysian, my name is a Chinese name, I remember when I flew from New York to Frankfurt back then, I was the only Chinese amongst the passengers of Lufthansa 747.  Early morning I had to fly out Oklahoma to transit Chicago, and finally reached New York at early evening. 

   It was first time I flew Lufthansa, but it was a very tired and bad experience flying journey for me to choose a wrong airline. Should be glad that I was young then, merely 20 over years, I didn’t need to sleep three days I wouldn’t curse anyone, that's why I only mentioned this incident after 20 years! 

   I remember I was arranged to sit framing by few nuns (should be high ranking mothers), and my seat couldn’t be adjusted as it was faulty. So I made a complain to the air stewardess, I was told there was no extra seat. 

  Was it merely a coincident of the faulty seat with the German meticulous and very racial defined character? Or the seat was arranged in such a manner that nobody wanted to sit with a Chinese flying from New York to Frankfurt, so only nuns were big heart enough to accommodate Chinese two decades ago?

   This incident was kept in my heart since 1987 to today 23 years later, I am almost reaching 50s. Since then I didn’t fly Lufthansa anymore. I flew Swiss airline back then, I remember on my another destination flying from Zurich to Singapore with my Italian friend, our tickets were even upgraded to business class, perhaps it was due to her diplomatic passport. 

   Anyhow there was still no Asian face on the flight, in late 80s; you wouldn’t see many Asian faces yet in both Eastern and Western Europe. But since 21^st century onwards, Chinese could be found everywhere, they are HATED now again because they become filthy rich that only Louis Vuitton loves them and vice versa!

I have a friend who is a air stewardess for Emirates, she told me now Chinese are everywhere, and due to she can speak Mandarin, she was always arranged to fly African routes, unfortunately her working trips were never the Safari trips ok?!  

   Once she reached there, she would hide in the hotel, eat and sleep there before flying off again, should Emirates considered giving more bonus to those pilots, air steward and stewardess more bonus?! 

   She said due to there are many Chinese passengers on board flying to Africa, that’s why they always made her flew there and actually it was quite unfair for her, why? 

   She flew the remote routes where those African countries are not safe countries, but only Chinese perhaps with Chinese kung fu dared to go working in such countries full of violent. 

   So Chinese are rich, but most of their money earned were under high risk that not many people realized that, most people just thought of Chinese’s money are dirty laundry money, paying poor people poorly to work for them to make them so rich. 

   True enough, Chinese businessmen mentality hardly changed even if they are highly educated as professionals in Australia or Britain, it just happened right in Kuching, I saw how my husband was not paid half of his work after he worked so hard for almost three years for a project. If he doesn’t have a professional wife, I will join the maid agent in Kuching soon! 

   Thank You Datuk can can tin tin chin chin chon chon! I will curse (sorry I can't pray anymore when I heart is filled with hatred) for your “kind” heart that those Kuching Police thought that you are kind hearted with your peanuts .....  5k of money.

   Ciao Kuching, thanks for producing a greedy professional billionaire Datuk takau civilian to make my life went to hell! I treated meow nice, but I smelt shits .... so I think I need money not meow and not an unlucky husband with a bloody Datuk–lawyer contractor boss who is not willing to pay!

When you wrongly married a “chinaman” husband!

I earned back my title of "Miss" again since two years ago when I won my bet in insurance claim after someone knocked me from behind while I was driving at just 20km/hour during early morning jam.

    My husband said if I could get back my insurance claim he would change his last name to my last name. To change his last name to mine??? I would immediately become the most notorious woman in the whole Sarawak state, and I dare say his whole "money" clan relatives would throw their rubbish at me.

   BUT I have learned my most painful lesson in life: If I ever trust a Chinaman’s words then I won’t be an angry woman since the day I married one and getting more angry when I found out I was fooled by a “Chinamen” stereo-type promises and weasel claims.

   I also learned my hard lesson and realized that illiterate women could produce very confident sons than educated and cultivated women!!! Because of their illiterate and ignorant background, they gave their sons so much approval and flatters, they praised their sons so much that they were brought up so positively, even if they are “shorties”, they don’t mind looking for a tall wife, if they are ugly, they don’t mind looking for a winning Miss Beauty Pageant, if they are poor, they don’t mind a rich or prominent family’s daughter, with a little money earned in the pocket, they are also more confident than other men, they could crow louder than any roosters! A good reference for modern women if any of this genre of man chasing after them!

I found out our society full of narrow minded and dirty minded people, when they learned that your husband only returned home once a month, they would immediately think  that he could have a mistress out in another town or they would imagine your husband probably doesn't  love you.

   

   They would never use their brains and be thoughtful enough think that your husband can’t afford returning home every week when he was working for a blood-sucker Datuk contractor.

   

   They didn't know that whenever his Datuk-contractor boss received his billion ringgit cheques from JKR or any government sectors, in a few days time the money would be exchanged and deposited into his Australian accounts, they didn't know that this billionaire-Datuk doesn't like to pay any of his subcontractors all over Malaysia, even RM30Ks of payment to his sub-contractor would turned his face black green and the whole office of his staffs would witness that, they knew that their Datuk-boss just likes to receive but never like to pay his creditors.

  

I came to Kuching 5 years ago, I observed this city people, I learned that all because of  there are too many of these unethical contractors infested in this city, that’s why Kuching people are mostly quite poor, most of them just could barely afford to eat three simple meals, and only time they could afford a better life during their old age, if their children turned out as a doctor or capable professional.

   

   When the main-contractors sucked the subcontractors' money, they in-turn also learned to suck other helpless people like revenge.

   In short people in a city, people laugh at poor but not at prostitutes, that’s why people won’t show you that they are poor. Only when you watched how they bargained with hawkers and poor labourers, then I learned how mean people are, it is like flu, when the Datuk-contractor bosses didn't treat you well, you also won’t treat people nice.

I worked in North for almost two decades, ang mo usually treated people nice, in oil and gas industry due to ang mo bosses' good payment ethnic, the payments were released on time, payment in full and there were less “undertable” monkey deals went on.

  

   Good ang mo payment culture built up there for so many decades, thus generally even oil city Chinaman businessmen also treated their staffs fair and well, I think this is something what oil city folks should feel glad and proud about.

   When few big corporations in a city willing to release money, then the rest of their subcontractors would have enough cash flows, and soon the whole city people have money to spend, and there will be less criminal cases too. Instead of poor people in Meow city has to depend on tourists’ money all because these born-in Meow city’s greedy takaus don’t want to pay their subcontractors, and their cash mostly went to overseas banks.

  I heard that only those “migrated” oil city takaus carried the good payment culture to Meow city, they are the good payers to subcontractors. Those Meow city-born mean contractors never learned that if they didn't pay the subcontractors well and on time, subcontractors wouldn't have enough money to pay their labourers, if their labourers didn't eat enough to go working, if any accidents happened on the work site and how about if the employees were not paid fairly and that led that to stealing and murdering cases, so who to blame? The filthy rich blood-sucker contractors are acting almost like a “day time robbers” blamed their poor subcontractors? That’s one the most UNFAIR things I witnessed under the sun in this meow city!

   

   I always told my friends, don’t need to study those complicated currencies laws, just observed how Malaysian currencies versus Australian or Malaysian currencies versus Singaporean, then you can tell how much our money went into those foreign countries, usually it happened that when government released billions ringgit today, the next few days time those billions would end up in foreign bank accounts, those who played dirtiest in this country, they are the ones who love the country least and don’t trust this country the most. 
   
   I think our government needs very strict control over its own currencies being transmitted this way with the excuses as “foreign investments”!!! If the money earned in this country, then should save it in this country, that’s why since I worked 20 years ago in Brunei, I kept seeing Malaysian currency drops every year. There is a big hole for big fish to get out, but “nobody” stops it, that “nobody” could be a big fish too to allow this happened???

Only Chinamen would love to work for this kind of blood-sucker contractors, all because Chinaman businessmen can’t speak English like ang mo, and sometimes these Chinamen are taught too well in Churches that they become too holly and not daring enough to play dirty to earn those stacks of contracts with subcontractors’ hard earned money to pay those "undertable" money.

  ‘Huh, I wait until you bring me to court house if you dare, just tell you that I am a lawyer too.’ That's the only time the contractor thought if he should pay, even if he did pay his creditors, he would be so unwilling. His mind is "I am the king, you are all slaves, slaves don' t deserve to get paid."

   So Chinaman subcontractors, do you dare to sue your ex-contractor boss when he sucked your hard-earned money?  Unfortunately, Chinaman businessmen got no ball when they faced Datuk, they scared the shits out of Datuk, so when they got frustrated, their poor wives and children would suffer from their Chinamen’s tantrum and poverty.

Many people don’t understand why I don’t like to attend Church service any more, especially the bloody weddings, when the pastor would preach that a wife has to listen and acted submissive to her husband. 

   Oh yes, all because the bible said it, then why don’t encourage the men to marry many wives just those Abraham or Jacob? Bible recorded that too. What generation we live in now? 

  Then why bible didn't add Book of Enoch that mentioned all those aliens names and promote Antediluvian lifestyle to us,  then all ladies should cover our hair, lest that those fallen angels saw the human women were pretty, they would come to them! The reason was the book was out of date, acted as a submissive wife happened back in new testaments, old era too, wasn't 19th century have gone and by gone?

   When men wanted girls to listen and submit to them, there would be too many excuses, and ladies are stupid and no brain enough to retaliate. Wise men prefer a compatible wife, not a puppy-wife, but stupid and weak men prefer a puppy-wife, so that when they go out to work they got bullied, when they return home they can bully their wives.

  

Modern days, professional ladies went out to work, earned at least RM10, 000 every month, and a man often earn less than that, but when he looked for a wife, he and his mom would make sure that his wife is a university graduate, but make sure she is not smarter than his son or academically more qualified than his son, must be pretty, from a good family background, she must know how to cook, and must have same denomination.

   I always wonder if such mother-in-law wanted to look for a full-time maid cum babies maker for her son, she didn't even look at the mirror of how handsome her son and capable her son is. But the mother-in-law won't let that happen to her own daughters, she would suggest maids for her own daughters!

   The minute when the  "dreamed daughter-in-law" got married, she and her son expected his wife to stay at home cooking, cleaning house and taking care of babies, yet her son couldn't afford a home maker wife if she doesn't go out to work. He just thought for himself that his career is much more important all because his brain was tuned that old way trained by his old thinking mom, then when he found out his business would not be always smooth, he wouldn't be honest enough to say he doesn't have money, he won’t be honest saying that he can’t afford to feed the family alone, so he would drag on giving the monthly allowance to his wife, drag on and on, his excuses was, ‘Oh, I was too busy, but don’t I always give you fully even it was three months later? I have just forgotten to bank in the money for you.’ ‘Oh, I have forgotten to send you money today.’

   Do you think if I work since I was 15 years old, and my income was always more than regular government officers, do you think I am stupid enough to be fooled by a Chinaman husband excuses? I am just tolerating.

   One day when I went to kopitiam, I heard he asked his friend, ‘Is your wife working?’

   ‘Yes.’

  ‘Wow, you untong.’

  What did this bloody Chinaman hinted to me? He was the one who removed my claws, and now admired those cats who can catch rats?

  

   


When I can’t find any job in Meow city as there is no rat in my area for me to catch rats, I plan to work outstation, immediately some people would stop, ‘Come on lah, don’t go lah, or else your marriage will be finished lah. How can you leave your husband all alone like this lah?’

   Just tell me directly what’s in your brain, I found out many women are more dirty minded than men. I would tell them off, ‘Do you know how old I am now? You think I am barely 30s or 40s?’ 

   When married at old age without meeting an honest man about his financial status, you could end up like me, working overseas as a housekeeper as a maid even if you have a degree, and neither you can earn money like before you married, as some careers are status oriented career, if you married a right husband, his high social status can help to boost your career. 

   Also when you married a loser, your sibling or your husband's sibling would look down at you, because they think that you choose a wrong husband, your next half life is gone to drain forever, they think that you probably are as stupid as their sibling that you married too, they won’t help to launch you a new career in this city even they could be very influential. In short they are more interested to see I work as a maid, a housekeeper or a driver for their kids, so they would feel much superior. When same thing happened in the society it infested to families or vice versa. It only takes our patient and determination to get out of any adversities.

   Well lucky Chinawomen, use your brain, not because your rich husbands give you sufficient money and expensive gifts, then every stay home wives would have your kind of good fates.

   Don’t you know it could happen to your own incapable chinaman brother who hardly gives enough money to his poor wife (also he removed her claws)? When his wife “thick-skin” enough to ask for pocket money from you during Chinese New year, if you are a professional woman, will you give her an ang bow instead of attacking her of asking you for money? Think before you open your mouth to attack another poor woman who is being controlled by your own brother. 

I HATE CHINESE NEW YEAR IN KUCHING CITY!

It is a girl’s nightmare to marry a wrong husband and an employee’s nightmare to work for a heartless boss!

When I write this article, I think I am on the verge of getting crazy, imagine a Chinese new year without any extra dime in your pocket when you husband’s boss didn’t yet release any money, and it only remains three days before Chinese New Year. Worst still I have been jobless for ages!!!!

   For a rich Datuk businessman, everyday is his Chinese New Year, that’s why he wouldn’t understand his poor employees why they insisted to celebrate Chinese New Year and must have bonus released to them only on Chinese New Year.

What a fateful life in this Kuching city? I came here with full of anticipation but in this eve of my stay here I would tell you why I think I don’t belonged to this city Kuching!

    

   I am still not bowing down with my tough life yet, past three years I gained more white hair on my head more than ever, I gained more weight more than ever and I am getting darker in complexion more than ever! You know who I would curse, when my prayers were not heard by my God?!  No woman likes her husband or children being bullied right?!

About three years ago, my husband returned home announced to me happily that he signed up a project with a handsome, young and a professional boss, a lawyer. And three years later he told me that I have a crow mouth. Well I am a modern Cassandra, he didn't take my advice!

   I poured cold water on him, ‘Do you know that a lawyer won’t know anything about your work nature? Does he know that you can’t build road when it is raining? Does he know that every day when you worked on his project, you are involving in lots of capitals? Does he know that you have to pay trucks, mechanics, workers etc and etc.? Will he pay you the full amount of the periodical work done like those established companies like Naim Cendera instead of just 40%? (This kind of bloody contractor really thought that every subcontractors earn more than him!!) Does he know that you have to pay for all those suppliers? Do you know lawyer can “chop you here and there in a ultra unreasonable way and at the end you won’t earn any dime, yet he will show his Buddha face telling you that, “Look, I am always helping you, am I?” Does he know that if he delay paying you but you have to sell off your shop lots and other capital assets?’

    

   So since my husband signed up with this lawyer-contractor boss, my life is in hell for three damn years in Kuching too. It is a girl’s nightmare to marry a wrong husband and an employee’s nightmare to work for a heartless boss! Let me tell you this, I am the victim of this issue, I have a “wrong husband” and he has a “wrong boss”, my luck is betting zero, and yet I am still holding my chin up grinning bravely.

There are many simple-minded sub-contractors (usually engineers) never thought twice when signing up project with a main contractor. I hear a lot of information past three years when I stayed in Kuching of who are the best contractors, who are the mean contractors and who are the worst contractors. I warn you that you have to watch out the following kind of main contractors when you sign up to work as a subcontractor for them.

(1)      Make sure he is not a second generation of a fairly rich businessman’s son, he was probably one of the smartest siblings amongst many others, that mean he would never need to let his finger getting dirty, arrogant in nature, thus he won’t have any compassion for those people who work hard for him under the sun, instead he would think that they are stupid that’s why they work these kind of dirty jobs, or else they would be like him sitting under the cool air signing billions of ringgit projects with the government sectors.

(2)      Make sure he is not a lawyer. The reason is he doesn’t know any shit about construction works, but he knows laws. Unless you have your own corporate lawyers’ team, or else if you are just a little subcontractor, he may “swallow you up” without a single noise, you won’t dare to make any noise, all because he is a lawyer. He thought that his subcontractors could “steal materials” to undercut cost but actually these subcontractors are always under stringent surveying by JKR engineers and consultants. So he thought his subcontractors actually earn more money than him, so he starts to cut here and there very unreasonable. He didn’t know that his subcontractors only were the winners to win contracts from him, when they bet their LOWEST!!! If a person plays dirty to win a contract, he will think the whole world would act like him! So don’t expect his fair treatment to you “employees” (or slaves)

(3)      The contractor-boss hardly accepted even “minimum religious education” (no use if his wife is as holy as a monk!) as a Chinese-Malaysian if he was not taught any Confucianism or Taoism, but if he is purely English educated. So don’t talk about compassionate, love, cherish and patient to him. He would scold the whole office staff yet no one dares to retaliate and challenge him, even if he was so unreasonable and acted like a barbarian. He usually has foul temper, the whole office staffs scared the shits pout of him, especially if he becomes a datuk now!!

(4)      Usually his dad has at least two wives, to show that he was from a problematic background already, lacked of fatherly figure since young day to coach them to behave like other ethical businessmen.

Just few weeks ago, people in Kopitiam kept gossiping a contractor,  this contractor didn't want to pay after a company removed all the heavy equipments out of the scene of a building for its open ceremony. I learned that he was a famous contractor in Kuching city who would not pay his subcontractors but would tell them to continue his next project, if the subcontractors pull out, they would be afraid they would never receive any more money, but if they continue to work for this company which shares a name like Barbie’s best boyfriend, their poor families would be having Chinese New Year like mine, no traveling, no good foods, no good clothing, poor in cash for years.

   The other kind of above mentioned boss would treat his office staff like slaves, one staff has to work for five staff’s works to cut down his employees’ expenses. These staffs were always working overtime, some of them even have to work during Sunday, during Chinese New Year, and the most they could get is RM500. What the staff didn’t know was the accountant was the one who got scolded badly by her boss, “I don’t understand why you all need to get bonus during Chinese New Year, I thought of giving you all during year end!” (Dubs… year end was just a month ago, did you give last year end’s bonus to your staffs?)

   

Bad bosses are like bad husbands, lucky employees need to look for good and kind employers with compassion. When I stay in Northern Sarawak for almost two decades, I know of a good employer, he was an engineering consultant, he and his wife earns a lot of money, yet they would credit those staffs and engineers who worked for them, they would bring the whole company staffs to tour England and Australia, during the trip the staffs would have extra expenses given.

  

   Some bosses are just greedy, they only think of if their own pockets and bank accounts are loaded, they didn’t care a shit of what other people suffer, the best is like my husband, sold off his shop lots and capital assets to “pay” for his contractor-boss’s project.

Lastly, I met a woman kept telling me how capable is her relative, but does she know that what is the use of a capable person without any compassion, his standard of kindness is different from the rest of the populations, if he donated less than a 10K he expected a big photo taken posted on newspaper. He didn’t pay his employees well, make them overworked. He didn’t pay his subcontractors fairly and also slowly.. or dragging the payments so that he could use the money to reinvest in European share markets …. yet when he talked to them, he would say, “Oh I always help you, am I?” That’s mean he thought all his subcontractors earned lots of money from his projects, he didn’t know yet now he has become very notorious in the civil contract works that he likes to cut and chop a pig, and the subcontractors at the end not even sharing a pig tail, and I think I heard I cursed, “SHITS”

   

   If you are main-contractors coincidentally fallen the above points that I mentioned but with true generosity, fairness, kindness and high conscience, then I am not talking about you!
